We are a professional manufacturer of standardised IEC 60309 plug and socket, multiple sockets outlets, industrial connectors, distribution boxes, ac contactors and thermal overload relay with good price and high precision for industrial demands. But many people may be do not know about IEC 60309 and here is a brief introduction.
IEC 60309 (formerly IEC 309 and CEE 17, also published by CENELEC as en60309) is a series of international standards of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on "plugs, sockets and couplers for industrial use". The standard allows a maximum voltage of 1000 V DC or AC; a maximum current of 800 a; and a maximum frequency of 500 Hz. The ambient temperature range is - 25 ° C to 40 ° C.
There are a series of plugs and sockets of different sizes with different numbers of pins according to the current provided and the number of phases accommodated. These accessories are popular in the open air because they include IP44 weatherproof. They are also sometimes used in situations where they do not require their special functions (such as high current ratings or three-phase facilities) to prevent potential users from connecting household appliances to the socket because "normal" household plugs are not suitable.
Environmental protection
IEC 60309-2 connectors are available in IP44 (splash proof), IP67 (waterproof) and IP66 / IP67 (spray proof / waterproof). In all cases, ratings are applicable at the time of separation or mating, but not during mating.
The more common variant of the IP44 features a spring-loaded hinged cover on the socket. When inserting the plug, hook the cover onto the lug on the plug and fix it in place. Fixed joints are usually installed at a downward angle to prevent water from entering.
The IP67 and IP66 / IP67 variants include a washer and a twist lock ring that seals the two connectors together.
Preferred current rating and wire gauge
This standard includes the preferred current ratings and wire gauges for International (as series I) and North American (as Series II) applications.
Series I preferred current rating (AMPS): 16, 32, 63, 125, 250, 400, 630 and 800, wire gauge specified as mm2.
Series II preferred current ratings (AMPS) are: 20, 30, 60, 100, 200, 300, 350, 500, and 600, with AWG and circular mils as the gauge designation.
